Description
Free talk to groups on quilt repair, finish & design.          Diverse fabric, yarn & beads are used to create one-of-a-kind custom crazy quilts; a collage in fabric that can tell a story from a child's birthday to a restrospective on a grandparent's life and times. This works equally well for a cause like animal rescue or a community group like a day care center. It's a throw size, 3 - 5 square feet; it would cover a top of a bed. That's the ideal size here. It can honor the past, present or future - a memory quilt about your life and times -  or the work of a group or business, or a Vision Quest quilt where we use fabric to visualize what you want in your future.         The amount of detail determines the price rather than the size. The $ 350. special is the best fit with the materials and work space used here. Everyone should order the $ 350. size. That covers basic construction & after it's together if you want to order embellishments, beading that can be seen from outer space, etc or intricate detail that is an option. You would continue at the $ 20/hr rate which includes materials & design.         The business also repairs quilts, vintage textiles and works-in-progress. The goal is to provide stability so it lasts for future generations. The creativity of the original artist can be appreciated as the damage & problems recede into the background.        This business has been featured in numerous publications, including the Richmond Times Dispatch, Style Weekly, Midlothian Exchange, Fifty Plus, and the designer has been interviewed about old quilts on WRIR Radio.                           Contact   ~ ~  ~  Custom Crazy Quilts PLUS Repair at  ~   804 304 3345          Crazy quilts are an American Victorian era style art form. Typically, smaller than bed quilts, they had no fluffy inner layer & are characterized by rich fabric - silk, velvet, satin, lace - and were used in living rooms rather than bedrooms to showcase the artist's fine stitches along each seam. Crazy quilts have no set pattern & often have embroidery showing the names, dates & city of those who worked on them.                        The specialty here is a highly personalized crazy quilt.   The designer works with you to select fabric to express your ideas and values. It can include whatever you have - lace tablecloths, old bedspreads, useful if you have fragments like the collar of grandma's wedding dress or the sleeves of grandpa's military uniform. (It can be a themed sweater or sweatshirt rather than a quilt, great for teachers, like a Santa sweater, with a combination of  kid, school & holiday themes. This would be less than the $ 350.                           Consider a Victorian Crazy Quilt shawl for a wedding or a prom.         The quilt can be designed around whatever you have, even badly damaged items that are incomplete, or just your ideas. You don't need to provide any materials but if you have something special it's nice to include it.   (A sweater,  jacket or sweatshirt with any theme can be decorated for a special event & worn in your group photos.)                                                 Materials available now -  Cowboy -  western theme fabric, wool, plaid, for a gentleman's quilt           Child - bright patterns & colors, bold prints, durable & fun       Victorian Lady - velvet, lace, silk, satin, with your initials, can be a wall hanging  Holiday Table Runner - for your special events table, with food, family and home theme                                                      Introductory Special  $ 350. includes original design & all labor & materials & appointments with you. Shipping is whatever the Post Office charges, no added handling fee, usually around $ 20.   The average price for quilt repair is $ 200. Finishing can be higher depending on the scope of the project.                            Ready to order ? Free consultation by phone. Established in 1999, the business started as a mending service and focused on vintage repair as customers brought  old quilts. The designer loves fabric, beads & yarn and combining disparate elements to express an idea or vision, something people are devoted to.  Vintage fabric can be used for repair and designer samples for custom orders.    The designer has had art shows at MCV Hospital, the Richmond Public Library, the VCU bookstore, Suntrust bank, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart as well as World Cup Coffee, and All Star Market & is always looking for display space to show beaded wall hangings which are not for sale. They show the range of what is possible. Custom Crazy Quilts PLUS Repair is a green eco-friendly business. The designer works from a vast collection of donated designer fabric samples, world class fabric in pristine condition as well as vintage materials donated by the families of quilters.                                                TESTIMONIALS            Customers with quilts made here are available to talk about their experience once you have placed your order. Jean will do a great job for you. She repaired a quilt for me that probably should have gone in the trash but my grandmother made it. I wanted to have it for sentimental reasons. You can count on Jean.                                                                                                                                                                                                    Andrea, Sales & Marketing, Richmond, Virginia   Jean has repaired a family quilt of mine, made several slipcovers and various other things. Jean is also a vendor at our local Farmer's Market of which I manage. I can personally and professionally vouch for her credibility and good work,                                                                                                                                                                                     Stacey, Manager, Richmond, Virginia   Jean repaired a quilt made by my great-grandmother. Her work was first rate. She puts a lot of thought and care into her work, and is great at consulting with you before she does anything. She gave me the extra material that she used, in case it needs more repair in the future. She aslo repaired a very valuable quilt for a client of mine (I'm a professional organizer).. My client was thrilled with what was a very difficult repair and was able to pass the quilt on the her granddaughter.                                                                                                                                          Olivia, Professional Organizer, Richmond, Virginia                                                                                                                                                           ( 804 ) 304 - 3345                              This is an established business with a strong track record.                          Photos show above - Your designer standing in front of a small crazy quilt plus beaded rainbow quilt & a variety of others.  Next photo will be of fabric ready to be used for your project.                             Orders usually filled in a few weeks or months; it depends on how fast you can respond to email photos.                                                           804 304 3345                                                      In person consultations in the New York City area twice a year, usually one week in winter and again in summer.  Year round in Richmond, Virginia, near Carytown.                                    Ready to order ? Many decisions are made during the design process so you won't be able to figure it all out in advance & samples shown won't necessarily be what yours looks like - since it depends on decisions you haven't made yet.                                   The best outcomes are when you & the designer cooperate so this can be great for everybody if you can participate via email photos & phone calls long distance. Start planning your collage in fabric, ask for input from family & friends, make a list of everything you care about, words, dates, themes, symbols &  the designer can express that in fabric.
